How the RCUV™ Ultraviolet Water Disinfection System Works

RCUV ™ Ultraviolet Water Disinfection System

Installation

The RCUV™ unit is installed directly into your home’s main water line, allowing it to treat all water entering the household.

UV Disinfection

As water flows through the stainless steel chamber, it is exposed to powerful ultraviolet (UV) light. This process neutralizes many common microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses, by damaging their DNA and rendering them inactive.

Energy Efficient

Disinfection occurs in just a few seconds using less power than a standard household light bulb, making it a cost-effective solution for clean water.

Low Maintenance

The only regular upkeep required is an annual UV lamp replacement, which can be easily handled by your RainSoft Great Lakes Water Treatment technician.

User-Friendly Operation

Built-in visual and audible alarms provide timely reminders when it’s time to replace the UV lamp, ensuring your system remains effective without guesswork.

Understanding UV Water Disinfection

In the RCUV Series by RainSoft Great Lakes Water Treatment, a high-output UV lamp is encased in a protective quartz sleeve within a polished, stainless steel disinfection chamber. This design ensures even UV exposure to all water passing through the unit.

The UV light delivers a powerful dose of energy that inactivates a wide range of harmful microorganisms—similar to distillation, but without removing beneficial minerals.

Advantages of UV disinfection include:

  • Chemical-free treatment with no residual taste, odor, or by-products
  • Does not alter water clarity or composition
  • Compatible with other filtration systems such as reverse osmosis, carbon filters, or water softeners

For best results, incoming water should be pre-filtered to at least 5 microns. Your local RainSoft Great Lakes Water Treatment specialist can help determine if your water is suitable for UV disinfection or requires pre-treatment.

⚠️ Important Note:
The RCUV Series is not intended for use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or from unknown sources. In those cases, the RCUV-NSF Series is required. These systems are not designed to convert wastewater or raw sewage into potable water and should be installed only on visually clear water.

We recently had a system installed, and had a great experience working with Great Lakes Water Treatment. The 3 biggest positives: 1) Health: the taste and convenience of the filtered water system has translated into us drinking much more water than we were before 2) Hair: the softened water is much nicer for hair texture and 3) Great install experience: Dom did a great job getting the system set up in a nice, compact way. Thank you!

Margaret L.

Absolutely fantastic service and product! Every step of the way, the install and information was first rate. My tap water no longer smells like a swimming pool, and I can drink the Reverse Osmosis without a care. Also, the detergent free washing machine unit is a marvel! I was skeptical, but it's better than advertised. Thanks so much!
