Advanced Filter Media
The EC4 OxyTech uses a proprietary blend of four specialized minerals, each chosen for its effectiveness in targeting specific contaminants. The media offers a long service life, low wear rate, and dependable performance across a wide temperature range.
How the EC4 OxyTech Works

Step 1: Incoming water passes through a compressed aeration chamber, where it becomes highly oxygenated. The oxygen reacts with dissolved iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide, converting them into solid particles.
Step 2: The oxygen-rich water continues through a multimedia filter bed, where the solid particles are captured—including elemental sulfur, iron, and manganese.
Step 3: At scheduled intervals, the system performs an automatic backwash to flush contaminants from the media and restore optimal performance.
Application Guidelines
- pH Range: Must be between 6.8 and 9.0.
- Iron: Maximum 10 ppm of ferrous (clear water) or ferric (red water) iron. For best results, maintain pH below 8.5 to avoid forming colloidal iron.
- Iron Bacteria: May increase maintenance frequency or reduce system life. Use chlorine or approved bacterial control methods to manage effectively.
- Hydrogen Sulfide: Maximum 10 ppm.
- Manganese: Limit of 2.0 ppm. Higher levels may interfere with iron removal. For best results, pH should be between 8.0–9.0. If iron is present, keep pH below 8.5.
- Chlorine: Should not exceed 1.0 ppm.
- Organic Matter (Tannins): Levels above 2.0 ppm may reduce filtration performance.
Maintenance Requirements

Over time, the filtration media will become exhausted and require replacement. The frequency of replacement depends on your household’s water quality and usage. Your local authorized RainSoft Great Lakes Water Treatment dealer can provide a recommended schedule based on your specific needs.
The system’s regeneration valves are designed to last a lifetime, though internal components may need annual cleaning or replacement due to exposure to untreated water. Your dealer will advise you on the ideal maintenance timeline and parts based on local water conditions and system use.
The EC4 OxyTech comes pre-programmed with an alert system to notify you when maintenance or media replacement is due.

We recently had a system installed, and had a great experience working with Great Lakes Water Treatment. The 3 biggest positives: 1) Health: the taste and convenience of the filtered water system has translated into us drinking much more water than we were before 2) Hair: the softened water is much nicer for hair texture and 3) Great install experience: Dom did a great job getting the system set up in a nice, compact way. Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic service and product! Every step of the way, the install and information was first rate. My tap water no longer smells like a swimming pool, and I can drink the Reverse Osmosis without a care. Also, the detergent free washing machine unit is a marvel! I was skeptical, but it's better than advertised. Thanks so much!
